STORM RESPONSE STORY

An unprecedented swarm of deadly nighttime tornadoes tore through several states leaving a long trail of death and destruction. We sent a team to work alongside our partner Samaritan's Purse to bring relief to victims. Brittany Grim from our Fort Dodge Campus tells about her experience.

FAQ

I signed up to be part of the Disaster Relief Team; now what?

We will notify you via text when our team deploys. We’ll also send email notifications with upcoming meetings and trainings.

What if I am not always available to volunteer when needed?

That’s ok! With each deployment notification, you can respond and let us know if you will be joining the team or not. You can still serve even if you are not deploying by praying for those affected, officials, and all the volunteers responding.

What skills do I need to be part of the Disaster Relief Team?

We need a wide variety of skills on our team. Chainsaw operators and debris haulers are important, but we also need volunteers to connect with and care for homeowners.

Are there age requirements to serve with the Disaster Relief Team?

All volunteers must be 14 or older. 14 and 15-year-olds must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, and 16 and 17-year-olds must have an adult chaperone.

What is the difference between deploying in Iowa with PLC versus Samaritan’s Purse?

Most opportunities with the PLC team are daylong deployments and will be within 60 miles of Cedar Falls or Fort Dodge. We’ll communicate logistics to those deploying (meeting time and location, carpool options, attire, and meal needs). Deployments with Samaritan’s Purse will typically be weeklong commitments with up to a 10-hour drive. Samaritan’s Purse arranges overnight accommodations and meals during deployment. PLC will make travel arrangements, and we’ll communicate details to those deploying. You will serve alongside other PLC volunteers and volunteers from around the United States.
