November 16, 2020

We are Nathan and Heather Harms. God has blessed us with two children - Esther, two, and Titus, born in June. We are both family medicine physicians who have had medical missions in our hearts for many years. Most recently, we had the privilege of working in New Hampton, IA in a practice allowing us to spend two to three months each year in Canilla, Guatemala, volunteering at Hospital Adonai.

We have been grateful for this season in our lives but are excited to share God has called us to transition into full-time mission work. We will partner with Adonai International Ministries (AIM) to serve the people of Guatemala and show the love of Christ through medical care. We plan to move to Guatemala January 2021 for an initial two-and-a-half-year commitment, with the possibility of staying longer depending on God’s direction.

We feel God has asked us to step into the role of full-time, on-site physicians with the support of other providers and staff. We will be working alongside providers from Guatemala, the U.S. and Zimbabwe. Our prayer moving into this role is to expand the obstetric services at the hospital, which is currently the area of highest need and risk. In addition to obstetric care, we will expand the inpatient resources and continue supporting the already thriving outpatient clinic and outreach clinics in area villages.

There are three avenues to be involved with our transition. The first, and most important, is PRAYER! We need you to surround us as our army of prayer. With your prayer support, we will achieve far more than we would be able to on our own. Our main prayer is through excellent medical care and shared relationships with the Guatemalans, God’s love and message of hope and salvation will be evident.

The second way to be a part of our adventure is financially as we will be living entirely on donated funds. These donations can be given as a one-time donation or as a recurring monthly gift. Please prayerfully consider how you can help. We are grateful for any gift!

The third way to get involved is by visiting us on a Prairie Lakes Church short-term mission team! It would be a joy to show you what God is doing in Guatemala, the multiple components of work at the hospital and other areas of ministry and have you gain an understanding and love for the Guatemalan people.
We are so thankful for each of you and excited to share this new adventure with you! To receive our monthly email updates, please email us with your name and email address or sign up.

In Christ’s love,

Nathan, Heather, Esther and Titus
