Northeast Iowa Food Bank

WHAT: Help combat hunger! Nearly 1 in 7 northeast Iowans go to bed hungry. Each year, 40,000 people (including 16,000 children and 4,000 seniors) receive food assistance from the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. Volunteer opportunities include office assistance, packing meals, stocking shelves, driving delivery trucks, and working at a Kids’ Café site.

Habitat for Humanity

WHAT: Dramatically change the lives of an entire family! Serving opportunities provide chances to build relationships with the soon-to-be homeowners as you work alongside them to paint, roof, frame and more.

Boys & Girls Club

WHAT: The Boys & Girls Club of Black Hawk County offers young people what they need and want most - adults who respect and listen to them and a fun, safe place to go after school. Serving opportunities range from playing sports in the gym, mentoring, tutoring, helping in the kitchen and playing card games to providing fun, three-week classes. WHAT: Succeeding in school is vital to succeeding in life, and kids need consistent adults in their lives encouraging them along the way. Call your local elementary or secondary school and ask about classroom volunteer opportunities such as aiding teachers or mentoring.

 

Alternatives

WHAT: Almost half of the pregnancies in the U.S. are unintended. Alternatives Pregnancy Center walks alongside women experiencing unplanned pregnancies, helping them understand their options and providing physical and emotional support. Volunteer opportunities include sorting baby clothes, housekeeping and client advocacy. Help encourage moms!
