Poverty Immersion

  • Waterloo

Saturday, August 1, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Waterloo Campus [118 High Street]

We tend to base our worldview and opinions on what is familiar or similar to our own life experiences. This can make it difficult for us to understand others’ situations and why they make certain decisions. Many people across Iowa are experiencing the reality of unemployment, reduced hours and low-paying jobs. This not only affects them and their families financially but also emotionally and spiritually.

Our Poverty Immersion is an interactive experience of what those facing material poverty deal with on a day-to-day basis. Community leaders will share on the reality and depth of this issue in the Cedar Valley, and, after walking through real-world scenarios, you'll better understand the dynamics of poverty. Registration deadline is July 28.
